Today marks the third week of our current series, Generation to Generation. In this message, pastor Stephen Redden walks us through the different stages of life and urges us to consider what it looks like to grow in wisdom in each life stage.

Discussion Questions
  1. Read the story of Jesus as a boy in Luke 2:41-52. What do you think it means that he “grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man?” What do we learn about Jesus’ humanity and how he learned and grew from these passages?
  2. What stage of life are you in right now? Share with others in the group what you find the most challenging about this stage in your life.
  3. Now share what generation you are part of and what you feel is unique about being in your generation in this stage of life. 
  4. Think about the quote from Dr. Sbanatto, “Every generation takes for granted the good that goes before it, reacts against the bad, and responds within its own historical context.” What are some good things that you and others in your generation you take for granted? What are some bad things your generation is reacting against?
  5. What insight or perspective can you provide to others in different stages of life? How can you be careful not to introduce your own “generational bias” into that perspective?
  6. What ways do you think intergenerational relationships can be helpful in the pursuit of growing in wisdom and relationship with God and others?

  • Take some time to reflect on the three questions from the message:
    • Where are you in the life stages PROCESS?
    • What’s unique about the CONTEXT of your generation?
    • What does it look like for you to “grow in wisdom and stature and favor before God and people?”
