This month, we’ll be partnering with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver (1300 E. 21st Ave, Denver, CO 80205). The RMH offers a loving home-away-from-home to families needing to be near their seriously ill or injured children while they’re being treated at metropolitan area hospitals. To assist these families, we’ll be buying/making, prepping, serving and eating meals with the residents for all three meals on Sunday, August 8. We can bring up to seven people per meal, with no age limits.
For each shift, the group should provide the meal in its entirety. Groups can bring restaurant or catered food, or prep and cook it in the RMH kitchen. Feel free to be creative or prepare your own family favorites! If you’re interested in leading one of the shifts to coordinate food preparation, please note this when you sign up.

In the Beginning, Part 2 – Why Science Matters

This is part two of a new series that is different than anything we’ve ever done. We’re exploring some tough questions that have perplexed many believers and also given doubts to those outside the faith who are skeptical about Christianity: Is it possible to believe in the claims of both science and faith? What about creation and evolution? Aren’t they incompatible? How do we make sense of Genesis if the scientists are telling us it can’t be true? In this message, we affirm that God created the world, but we look at the scientific evidence for how he did that.

Guatemala Collection Effort

In a few weeks, a small team from New Denver Church will be traveling down to Guatemala. We’ll be working with Healing Waters International to learn about the culture and needs in the rural Mayan highlands of Guatemala and initiate relationships with possible church partners there. The long-term goal is to establish an ongoing partnership with a “sister church” in Guatemala whereby we help them with some of their needs (like clean water) and in turn learn from them what it means to worship God and be part of his mission in the world from the aspect of another culture. You can learn more about our global vision here. You can play a vital role in this trip – here’s how:
One of the villages we’ll be visiting is Panimanche – a small, rural indigenous Mayan village. Three years ago, a church was planted in Panimanche that has been trying to bring restoration to all the people that live there (kind of like NDC in Denver!) Poverty is rampant there and about 3 months ago Tropical Storm Agatha entirely destroyed the village. In light of that, we’d like to bless them by bringing down some much needed clothing (most people’s homes and all their possessions were destroyed.) So, over the next two weeks, we’re collecting clothes for the children of Panimanche (see picture of them above). You can help by bringing clothes to church on July 25 or August 1. The team leaves on August 14 and will deliver these clothes to the church and village while we’re there. Specifically, we’re looking for the following items for children (any age):
- Shoes
- Pants
- Shirts
- Lightweight rain jackets
The clothes can be used, but should be in good condition. So, you can either donate clothes your children no longer wear (but are still in good condition), or buy some clothes at a thrift store or Wal-Mart. If you are unable to donate clothes or live outside Denver, you can still participate in our efforts by giving financially. Go to our “Giving” page for instructions on how to give to New Denver.
This is one of the most tangible expressions of our faith:
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

Follow the Leader, Part 3 – You are the Movement

We all want to be part of changing something about our world. Maybe you’re passionate about finding a cure for cancer, or protecting our environment, or maybe it’s closer to home, like improving the quality of your kids’ school or your neighborhood park. So how do you start a movement that changes the world in some positive way? Certainly it takes a great leader. But the people that show up to follow make all the difference.
This week we ask the questions, “How do movements that change the world sustain themselves?” After a movement gets started, someone has to sustain it. How does that happen beyond the involvement of the movement’s founder?
