Gather around the table or cozy up on the couch and read this week’s part of The Big God Story.
To end your time together, pray a blessing over your child. (You can use the one below or make up your own!)
The Big God Story:
We’ve been learning so much from The Big God Story. All throughout The Big God Story, God’s people stopped and celebrated God. They had parties to celebrate everything he had done for them. It was one way the people could say thank you to him. What are some things we celebrate? Invite your child to respond; interact with his or her response. We celebrate birthdays, new babies, Christmas, Easter, etc. When we celebrate, we love to have parties. Today we’re going to pause and instead of hearing a new part of The Big God Story, we’re going to remember and celebrate all the things God has been teaching us the past few weeks!
In The Big God Story, we learn that God is with us all the time. When is God with us? Invite your child to respond. That’s right—all the time! Do you remember how after Jesus died and came back to life he told his friends that he was going up to heaven to be with God, but that God would always still be with them? Let’s clap and cheer as loud as we can to celebrate that God was with Jesus’ friends even after Jesus went back to heaven, and God is with us too! Clap and cheer together.
Do you remember when Barnabas and Paul were sharing the good news about Jesus and telling everyone in Antioch about God’s love? When they told people about God’s love, God was with them! Let’s clap and cheer to celebrate that God was with them and that God is with us too! Clap and cheer together.
Do you remember when Peter’s friends prayed to God when Peter was in prison? God was with Peter. He sent an angel to free Peter. Let’s stand up and wiggle and dance to celebrate that God is always with us! Stand up and dance for a few seconds. Then sit back down.
Guess what! God is with us when we play. God is with us when we’re at our friend’s house playing, when we’re in our backyard, and when we go to the park or the library or the grocery store or anywhere else we go! I love knowing that wherever I am, God will be there.
God is with us when we wake up in the morning. God is with us when we get dressed and brush our teeth. He is with us when we play and at night when we’re asleep. I love knowing that whatever time it is, God never leaves us. We can talk to him whenever we want, and we can be with him always. Let’s stand up and clap and cheer and dance one last time to celebrate that God is always with us! Stand up and celebrate together.
Look your child in the eyes, say their name, and then speak this blessing to them: May you know that God loves you, that he’s always with you, and may you become all that he’s created you to be. May you love God with your whole heart for your whole life.
