  1. Read Matthew 7:3-5. What is most challenging about this teaching when applied to the context of relational conflict?
  2. The message discussed identifying your emotions when processing conflict. Is that difficult for you? If so, why?
  3. Would you consider yourself an “emotional” person? How does that help or hurt when dealing with conflict?
  4. Practically speaking, how can you can be more aware of your emotions and communicate them to others in an honest and helpful way?
  5. How would you define empathy? Why is empathy important when talking through a conflict with someone?
  6. The message mentioned four possible end goals for engaging conflict: win-lose, lose-win, lose-lose, and win-win. Which is your default? Can you think of a recent example where you approached a conflict in one of these ways?
  7. Provide an update to your group about someone in your life with whom you need to resolve conflict. What are the barriers right now? What is keeping you or them from moving forward? Most importantly, what is your part?

Moving Forward

Each morning over the next week, pray for the person you are currently experiencing conflict with.

Spend some time journaling about the person/situation. Focus specifically on your emotions. How do you feel? How did this person make you feel? How did the conflict make you feel? What emotions are you carrying? How can you share these emotions with God like David did (see Psalm 55)?
