New to New Denver?

If you’re thinking about visiting New Denver Church for one of our worship services, here are a few things to help you know what to expect when you come.

Worship Services

New_Denver_Church_October_2009_006We gather weekly to worship together – with a twist. On Second Sundays we do not meet at church for worship; we meet in the community to worship through serving others. For more information see our Second Sunday page. We currently meet for worship services at 5:00pm in the sanctuary of Bonnie Brae Church (700 Bonnie Brae Blvd).

Our services last about 1 hour and 15 minutes and usually include hearing about what’s happening in our community, singing several songs together, and a time of teaching. It’s hard to define a musical style, but if we had to, we’d say that we’re “progressive.” We sing songs written by artists like Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, and Steve Fee. Sometimes we’ll sing well-known hymns of the Christian faith, but you’ll probably never hear an organ or harp at New Denver Church. If you’re new to church or Christianity, the best way to describe our style is to say that we like U2, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Switchfoot, Green Day…stuff like that.

New_Denver_Church_October_2009_010-2During the teaching time, we typically talk about important issues related to our faith and everyday lives. We believe that even though the Bible is an ancient book, it still has a lot of wisdom for us as we navigate difficult relationships, career moves, managing our finances, and facing the tough issues of life. More than anything, we think the Bible offers a hopeful message for finding meaning and purpose in a relationship with God. In light of that, we aim to offer practical teaching that is beneficial to both long-time Christians and curious seekers.

You don’t have to dress up to attend New Denver Church. In fact, we’re pretty casual and laid back. When you come, hopefully you’ll meet some new people and connect in meaningful ways with others who are also on a journey of faith. But if you just want to come, sit in the back, and “check things out,” that’s fine too.

Families

UpStreet_Oct_18_2009_004If you have children, we hope you’ll bring them with you! We have great programs for children during our worship services, from infants through elementary school. First and foremost, our children’s environments are clean and safe. We take this very seriously. All of our volunteers have had background checks and been trained to work with children. They serve during the worship service so that you can enjoy your experience knowing that your children are in good hands.

waumbaOur environment for babies and preschoolers is called Waumba Land. “Waumba” is the Swahilian word for “creator” and Waumba Land is where our babies and preschoolers are cared for in small groups. During their time, our volunteers focus on helping your children to know three things:

  • God loves me
  • God made me
  • Jesus wants to be my friend forever

upstreetUpStreet is where our children from kindergarten through 5th grade meet in a blend of small and large groups to learn about the Bible, worship through singing, and build friendships with other kids and adult leaders. It’s never boring, always loud, and guided by the best leaders on the planet! There are three values we teach in UpStreet:

  • I need to make the wise choice
  • I can trust God no matter what
  • I should treat others the way I want to be treated

Both Waumba Land and Upstreet are open 15 minutes before the beginning of the service at 5:45 pm. When you check your children in, we will ask you to fill out some basic information and then give you a number so that only you can pick them up after the service ends. If you would like to provide this information ahead of time, visit this link to fill the form and we’ll make sure the check-in process goes smoothly and quickly.
