We were all created to work. It’s part of how God made us, but for most of us, we have a lot more going on in our life than just work. We have personal responsibilities, we have relational responsibilities, we have hobbies, and for families, we have family responsibilities. When you put them all together, there’s more to do than we have time to do it. So in the face of this tension, what do we do? We cheat. Every day we choose to cheat something, somewhere and we cheat someone. The question is, where are you cheating? And is that the right place to cheat?

As we step back from the individual circumstances of our working life, good or bad, and begin to look at what we do through the lens of faith there is a tension we must address. While we want to work with all our heart as if working for God, some days we’re not really sure why we do what we do. We all have those habits–things we think or do that we can’t seem to overcome, but that we’re too embarrassed to tell anyone about. James says that needs to change.
