Summer School

At New Denver Church we believe that life change doesn’t happen just by knowing more. That’s why we create smaller environments throughout the year all around the city where people come together to seek to grow spiritually, connect relationally, and serve selflessly. While knowledge alone won’t help you grow closer to God, it is still important to the process. That’s why during the months of June and July our small groups take a break for Summer School. Summer School is an offering of groups and classes designed to address a particular topic or need. It’s a great way to connect relationally and to grow together in our spiritual journey.

Groups begin on Wednesday, June 6 and last from 6:30pm-8:30pm. This year all our groups are 8 weeks long and will all take off the week of July 4th.

Snacks are provided (feel free to bring dinner if you don’t get time to eat before class) and child care is as well (RSVP required for child care), and we only ask for you to cover the cost of each group’s materials (but please let us know if cost is an issue and we can discuss financial assistance to help you participate).

2012 Summer School Groups:

Spiritual Life

What good is prayer? Can I hear from God? How do I grow deeper? Is it possible to live like Jesus? We all have ideas about how to grow spiritually. Some are dead on, and it’s likely others are dead wrong. Join us as we dig into the scriptures to explore the spiritual life – what is it, how do we pursue it, and how do we sustain it?

Duration: 8 weeks
Led by: Dan Snyder and Kelly Angell
Cost: TBD

The Meaning of Marriage

Modern culture would make you believe that everyone has a soul-mate; that romance is the most important part of a successful marriage; that your spouse is there to help you realize your potential; that marriage does not mean forever, but merely for now; that starting over after a divorce is the best solution to seemingly intractable marriage issues. All those modern-day assumptions are, in a word, wrong. Guided by the book The Meaning of Marriage by Tim Keller, this study will explore the Bible’s perspective on marriage – a wonderful relationship designed to bring us closer to God and to experience more joy in life. This is a study to learn more about God’s intent for marriage and is for everyone – married, engaged, dating, divorced, or single people are all welcome.

Duration: 8 weeks
Led by: Stephen and Kate Redden
Cost:
Only the Meaning of Marriage book is required and can be purchased at most bookstores, online at Amazon.com, or checked out through the Denver Library.

How God Wired You

Every person is different. But knowing how you’re different can make all the difference in the world. In this class, we’ll utilize four different personality and gift assessments to discover exactly how God has uniquely wired you. And we’ll discuss how to leverage your personality, gifts, and strengths to be all that God made you to be.

Duration: 8 weeks
Led by: Norton Herbst and Jason Malec
Cost: $50 (includes book and cost of assessments; scholarships are available if you cannot afford the whole cost)

Having A Mary Heart In A Martha World

For any woman, single or married, parent or not who’s felt she isn’t godly enough, isn’t loving enough, isn’t DOING enough! This study is based on the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. This is a study about balancing a busy life with what Jesus tells Martha is a “better way”. What is enough and what is keeping us from drawing closer to Jesus? In our current world of always being connected with everyone else, why can’t we find time to connect with Jesus? This summer as we begin to establish relationships with each other, let’s also develop a deeper relationship with our Lord.

Duration: 8 weeks
Led by: Toni Sonnenfeld and Janis Herbst
Cost: The only cost is the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, available at Amazon or at local bookstores.
