Summer School

At New Denver Church we believe that life change doesn’t happen just by knowing more. That’s why we create environments throughout the year all around the city where people come together to seek to grow spiritually, connect relationally, and serve selflessly. While knowledge alone won’t help you grow closer to God, it is still important to the process. That’s why during the months of June and July our Missional Communities take a break for Summer School. Summer School is an offering of groups and classes designed to address a particular topic or need. It’s a great way to connect relationally and to grow together in our spiritual journey.

Love, Sex and Relationships (For singles and couples)

Our culture tells us a lot about relationships. It tells us that successful relationships are mostly about romance. That your partner is there to help you reach your potential and bring you personal fulfillment through sex and companionship. We’re told that marriage doesn’t have to last forever, and if yours isn’t “working” it’s better to move on and get a fresh start. Yet this view of love, sex and relationships has left us longing for more. Join us for this eight week study as we explore God’s design for love, sex and relationships. Whether you’re single, in a relationship, or married this is a great book to learn more about healthy God-centered relationships.

Note: For couples taking this course there is also the option to take the Prepare/Enrich assessment and get a personalized assessment of your relational strengths and growth areas.

For: Anyone – dating, single or married. Alone or as a couple.
Cost: $20 for book and materials (Scholarships available according to need)
Time: 6:30-8:30pm on Wednesday nights from June 5 – July 31
Place: NDC, room TBD based on class size

The Husband Project (For Women Only)

It’s so easy for marriages to stall out, slip into neutral, or flip over to automatic pilot. In our rush-rush culture, marriages often fall to the bottom of priority lists in favour of more urgent tasks and projects. Husbands and wives pass like ships in the dark; occasionally brushing past each other in their journeys, but all too often gliding past without connecting. If you are married and could use some support and inspiration to “bring back that lovin feeling” then this class is for you! Join us for 5 weeks together journey through Kathi Lipp’s book, The Husband Project- 21 Days of loving your man on purpose and with a plan. The study involves accountability with other participants and fun ideas to inspire you.

For: Women only
Cost: $15 for the book and childcare
Time: 9:30-11:30am, Wednesdays from May 29 – June 26
Place: The Loft at NDC

Beginner Yoga (For Women Only)

For the first time, this year NDC is offering an opportunity to develop your body and not just your mind. This summer we will offer a beginner’s yoga course to focus on learning about the physical life that God has asked us to steward, taking care of our bodies well and learning to move in ways that are healthy! The class will be one hour and combine stretching, balance, strength building, movement, and flexibility.

Don’t worry – the class won’t involve any strange meditations, chantings, energy work or anything strange like that! The purpose is to learn to use your body in healthy ways, take better care of it and learn how one’s muscles work. All you need is a yoga mat or a towel, water, and comfy clothes. The class will be led by a trained instructor and no previous yoga experience is required.

For: Women only.
Cost: Free.
Time: 6:30-7:30pm, starting June 5
Place: NDC, downstairs in the fellowship hall

People are free to join the yoga class at any point. Click here to register.

The Life You’ve Always Wanted (For Men Only)

Are you tired of the status quo – do you suspect there’s more to Christianity that what you’ve experienced?

You can live a deeper, more spiritual life right where you are. The heart of Christianity is transformation, a relationship with God that impacts not just our “spiritual lives,” but every aspect of living. This class will bring us back to the dynamic heartbeat of Christianity, God’s power to bring change and growth, and reveals both the how and why of transformation.

“The Life You’ve Always Wanted” is an encouraging and challenging approach to a Christian life that’s worth living: a life on the edge that fills an ordinary world with new meaning, hope, change, and joy.

For: Men only
Cost: $15 for class materials.
Time: 6:30-8:30pm on Wednesday nights from June 5 – July 31
