In the Darkroom, Part 2 – Background Noise

May 24, 2010

From time to time, life throws you a curve ball. The conversation you didn’t want to have. The news you didn’t want to hear. The phone call you didn’t want to receive. And when that happens, if feels like we’ve been locked in a darkroom with no answers to your questions. If God really loves us, why would he let this happen? Why doesn’t he answer our prayers? How will this ever turn out in any good way?

When life throws you a curveball and you feel like you’re in the Darkroom, what do you do? Are you content to talk about God, or are you willing to talk to God? Listen in as we examine Job’s passionate exchange with God, and discover that his personal faith is better than his friends’ perfect theology.

Denver 2010, the UNconference

May 5, 2010

What is Denver 2010?

In partnership with the Ecclesia Network of churches, New Denver will be a hosting a gathering of leaders to think imaginatively about the future of the church with others in an open-source gift economy way. The next BIG idea is about giving time to interact about innovative ways to partner with God in the renewal of all things. UNconference is about freely sharing creative ideas with one another without putting anyone on a pedestal. It is more participant oriented than personality driven.  You will hear from practitioners who are on the front lines. There is also no cost, because people are sharing their gifts and knowledge freely.

Second Sunday Project for May

May 4, 2010

This month we will be serving at Denver Rescue Mission (DRM), one of our local service partners. During the year, the Denver Rescue Mission provides shelter, food, clothing, education, Christian teaching, and work discipline to meet individuals at their physical and spiritual points of need. We will be volunteering at DRM’s Lawrence Street facility. Lawrence Street, DRM’s flagship facility, is a men’s shelter with 200 overnight beds, and an outreach location offering meals, clothing, free health care, and Client Services. On Sunday, May 9th from 4:30-6:00pm we will be preparing, and possibly serving, a meal.

The Good Life is Found in the Good News

May 3, 2010

Last night we wrapped up our three-part series entitled The Good Life. If you missed last night you can listen to it over on our messages page, but the assignment Stephen gave us at the end of the evening was to spend some time this week reading about the kingdom that Jesus taught about in Matthew 5-7 to discover more about this good life he offered us. As you read these three chapters of scripture ask God to show you what it would look like for God’s will to be done in your life and how you can participate in this kingdom into which Jesus has invited us to live.

The Good Life, Part 3 – The Way

May 3, 2010

The Good Life. Three simple words with very deep meaning. Just saying the words evokes complex thoughts, emotions, and desires. But what does it mean to really live the good life? How do you know how to get there? How do you know when you’re there? How do you stay there?

In the first two weeks of this series we looked at the book of Ecclesiastes and found out that just denying our desires doesn’t lead to the good life, and neither does just indulging our desires. This week we look at what Jesus had to say about the good life.
