Second Sunday Project for February
January 25, 2010
At New Denver Church we choose not to gather together for worship services on the Second Sunday of the month. Instead we choose to use the second week of the month to gather in our community to worship God by serving others. This month we will continue our project with Habitat for Humanity. In January Habitat began construction of their historic new Bails neighborhood project here in Denver. The Bails neighborhood project is Habitat’s first transit-oriented green community build. They will be constructing 24 townhouses in 5 buildings to create 1 community. New Denver has partnered with other churches in our area to form the Future Faith Network. Together over the next four months we will contribute the time and money required to build one townhouse in the community.
New Denver has committed to provide fifteen volunteers in the second week of February – five spots on Friday, February 12th and ten spots on Saturday, February 13th. To sign up to serve with us go to the Future Faith Network volunteer website. Move fast, because these slots will surely fill up fast. If all the slots are filled, feel free to go ahead and sign up for any future build days designated for New Denver or open to all churches in the network. Or you can check out one of our other local partners to find another opportunity to join us to worship God by serving together in the community.
Life Together, Part 3 – For Others
January 24, 2010
We’re all busy. Each day we get up and go through our daily routines. We go to work. We run errands. We spend time with family and friends. In the flow of our everyday life, it’s easy to move past people we see every day and not even notice them. Our community just becomes the place we live or work, but is there more to being a neighbor than just sharing space? In this message Stephen explores what it means to live in community “for others.”

Life Together, Part 2 – For Us
January 17, 2010
Humans are relational beings. We were made to work, live, celebrate, and even mourn together . These days it’s easier than ever to connect with others through email, text messages, and social networking. But the pressures of work and family, an increasingly mobile lifestyle, and the abundance of technology and media diversions in our lives push us toward isolation. We live in “crowded loneliness.” Even at church it’s easy to come and go – sing some songs, hear a message but never go any deeper than a polite greeting and handshake. Is that just how it is or is it possible that the church was meant to be so much more? In this message Stephen explores what it looks like to build a community “for us.”

Superbowl Sunday!
January 13, 2010
So, Superbowl XLIV is February 7th; kickoff is around 4:30 pm mountain time. Which poses quite a dilemma for us since our worship services and family ministries environments are on Sundays at 5:00 pm. Do we just ignore the Superbowl and go on with services? Do we replace our services and children’s environments with a Superbowl party? Do we cancel services? As we discussed the issue with our Leadership Community, we came away with a unanimous decision. Let me briefly explain how it unfolded.
Worship, teaching, and gathering as a community is important to us, so we didn’t want to just cancel services for a football game. And yet, as we thought about the Superbowl, we realized that it’s one of the most important “holidays” in our culture. It’s a time where virtually everyone, regardless of whether they are football fans or not, gathers in people’s homes to eat, hang out, watch the game (and all the expensive commercials!), and simply enjoy community together. We thought: isn’t this what our church is about–relationships and community? What a great opportunity for small groups to hang out together and watch the game. What an even better opportunity to throw Superbowl parties in our homes and invite neighbors and friends who aren’t part of our church. Going to church is important to our faith, and we do that most other Sundays of the year. So why not take this Sunday to enjoy relationships?
With that in mind, we’re not going to have church on February 7th. Instead, “have church” in your home, invite your neighbors and friends, and enjoy the game! So, the schedule for the next few weeks is:
January 17, 24, and 31: Regular services and children’s environments at 5 pm
February 7: No services: Superbowl parties instead!
February 14: No services: Second Sunday service project
February 21: Resume regular schedule of services and children’s environments at 5 pm
Life Together, Part 1 – Made For It
January 3, 2010
Unfortunately, we had technical difficulties and weren’t able to record audio for this message. Nevertheless, in this message, Norton shared how the Bible reveals that we were made to be in community with other people. In Genesis 1 and 2, the Bible says that humans were not made to be alone. The creation account records that God made Eve for Adam–so that humans would have one another to do life together. The creation account also reveals that we were made in God’s image and likeness. And since God is mysteriously a community of people himself–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–we bear his image best when we live life in community with others.
January Second Sunday Project
January 3, 2010
This month we are kicking off our new Second Sunday initiative. We couldn’t think of a better way to start than by working with Habitat for Humanity to help them kick off the historic new Bails neighborhood project here in Denver.
Next week there are ten volunteer spots on Friday, January 8th and ten spots on Saturday, January, 9th.
Life Together
January 1, 2010
Humans are relational beings. We were made to work, live, celebrate, and even mourn together. But in the twenty-first century, genuine community remains elusive. It is easier than ever to connect with others through email, text messages, Twitter, and Facebook, but we have little time for more than that. Most of us scarcely even know our own neighbors. And church often consists of showing up once a week for a handshake and polite conversation, then returning to our “normal” lives. It begs the question: What does it mean to live in community? Join us this January for a special series on doing life together.
Starting in January we will meet on the first, third, and fourth Sundays of every month at 5:00pm at Hope Community Church. For more details about our worship services see our Sundays@NDC page.

If you live in Denver, we would love to get to know you, let you get to know us, and answer any questions you may have about the church. So let us buy you a cup of coffee! Just
