490 Miles Closer
January 26, 2009

We have now seen five states and covered more than 1100 miles as we work our way across the country. We left St. Louis this morning headed toward Kansas – hopefully the last overnight stop along the way before we roll into Denver tomorrow (weather permitting). The highlight from today was definitely lunch.
Knowing that Kansas City is known for good BBQ, I was pleased to see that we’d be rolling through around lunch time. I put out a request on Twitter asking for recommendations from anyone who knew KC. The consensus recommendation was a place called Arthur Bryant’s. When we saw that the original location was just off I-70, it was a no- brainer – we had to stop there for lunch. We were not disappointed. The food was great, and this was a classic old-school BBQ joint. If you’re ever in Kansas City, I highly recommend it.
There’s not a whole lot more to tell honestly. Driving across Kansas was…ummm, uneventful. Here are a few highlights:
So we’re here in Russell, KS for the night. Pray that the weather holds off and we’re able to do the last 360 miles to Denver tomorrow. Everyone’s in pretty good spirits, but we’re all pretty ready to be there.

I am enjoying following along on your trip. I have made the drive across Kansas four times now and every time it is just as boring as the first time only because it could not possibly get any more boring. I feel your pain. Hope y’all have a safe and productive day of Travel tomorrow to make it safely into Denver soon.
