On the road
January 25, 2009
Well, the Redden family is finally on the road and on our way to Denver! The movers came last Wednesday and loaded all of our stuff on the truck and started the trek before us. We stayed with some good friends in Atlanta waiting for our house closing on Friday. While indications all pointed to a smooth closing, I have to admit that I was holding my breath until we signed all the papers and had the check in hand.
Thankfully, everything went great with the closing. God not only answered our prayer to sell our house, but he answered our prayer to send people who shared our faith and might continue to be used to represent Christ in the neighborhood. The couple who bought our house is a great young couple who attends North Point and are very excited to own their first home. Our prayer is that they enjoy the house as much as we did.
As we pulled away from Atlanta on Friday, there was definitely a little sadness. Atlanta was a great place to live, and we are so thankful for the first chapter of our family’s life that was written there. Still the sadness was accompanied by hopeful excitement and anticipation as we started our journey to Denver.
After stopping in Nashville, TN for a couple of days to visit Stephen’s parents, we continued on to our first stop on the trip – St. Louis, MO. We decided to break the trip up into 3 six-hour chunks (Nashville, TN to St Louis, MO; St Louis, MO to Salina, KS; Salina, KS to Denver, CO).
The trip so far has been pretty good. The kids were mostly good in the car, but all our nerves are a bit on edge right now (so I’m typing this as fast as I can to finish up). We’re all staying in one hotel room (yes, the dog as well), so tonight should be interesting. For anyone interested, here’s some video clips from the road:

I was just looking at weather.com, and it looks like tomorrow could be interesting – a 70% chance of snow between here and our next stop. If we come to mind, say a little prayer that we have safe travels.
