Thoughts from the Road
December 26, 2008
Well, the Herbst family is on the road. When we left Denver three and half years ago for a new life in Georgia, we wondered if we would ever come back. Janis and I were off to work for a great church, in a great city, and hopefully about to start a family. Little did we know that between April 2007 and April 2008, we would go from a family of 2 to a family of 5 (!!!), and on top of that, decide to move back to Denver to help start a church. Life is crazy.

A Month of Gratitude, Day 9
December 17, 2008
Today is my last day at North Point Ministries. I spent the day packing up the last of my things and clearing out my office. It has been an amazing seven years, and I am so incredibly grateful for all that God has done in and through me in this place. I am a different person than when I first attended, and I am a different leader because of the time I’ve spent working in this organization. There is a lot that I will miss about this place, and there is so much that I’m grateful for. But the thing I will miss most, and the thing I’m most grateful for, are the relationships I’ve developed with the people of this community.
A Month of Gratitude, Day 8
December 17, 2008
The days have gotten busier as the close of my time at North Point draws to a close, and I haven’t gotten in as many posts in this series as I’d wanted. But from the time I started this series, I knew what the last two posts would be. Yesterday as I cleaned out my desk, I threw away seven years worth of conference notebooks. I realized how much teaching on leadership I’ve gotten over these seven years (not to mention getting to watch great leaders and learn from experience). So in this next-to-last post I’d like to share how grateful I am for the leadership lessons I learned during my time at North Point. Read more
Cool Stories
December 14, 2008
I just returned from Browns Bridge Community Church where I had the pleasure of baptizing one of my former Starting Point group members. Dawn’s story is like many, in some ways, and unique in others.
An answered prayer
December 13, 2008
For all of you who have been following along with us and have prayed for the sale of our house, all I can say is that you did a great job – we have a contract on our house!!! We still have to get through the inspection and make it all the way to closing, but we are cautiously optimistic that everything will go smoothly. Please continue to pray that it does. Our closing date is January 23rd, and we’ll be heading to Denver immediately after that.
Please also continue to pray for the Malec family, as they still have their house on the market. Jason will be on staff at North Point through January, but we’re hoping his house can sell so he can join us in Denver as soon as possible.
I Am Second

If you haven’t seen the website I Am Second you need to check it out. Great stories of faith told by very interesting people (former Korn guitarist Brian Welch, actor Stephen Baldwin, American Idol star Jason Castro, MLB all-star Josh Hamilton, and lots more). Read more
A Month of Gratitude, Day 7
December 7, 2008
Today at North Point, Andy did the last message in his Listen and Learn series. In the message Andy talked about the ways that we hear from God and that God is always speaking, but often we don’t put ourselves in a position to listen to God and hear what He has to say. The message brought to mind a number of questions people have asked me through the years about how I knew God was calling me into ministry and more recently how I know that God is calling me to go to Denver. The seventh thing that I’m grateful for from my time at North Point is the answer to those questions. Read more
A Month of Gratitude, Day 6
December 3, 2008
One of the things we’re hearing more and more often these days from people in our congregation here at North Point are the repercussions of our faltering economy. As consumer spending falls and the stock markets continue to struggle, businesses are being forced to make cutbacks and people are facing serious financial hardships. In many cases these situations are made worse, because people have lived with little to no finaincial margin. In the midst of these circumstances, I am grateful for a perspective on money that I owe to North Point. It’s the sixth thing that I’m grateful for from my time here. Read more
