Our recent trip

August 23, 2008

About a week ago, we all traveled out to Denver with our wives (sans kids!) to explore the area. Here are a few highlights:

  • Weather: good and bad. Good, because the first day we were there was an amazing 75 degrees, sunny, and dry–typical Denver summer beauty. A wonderful change from Hotlanta. Bad, because then a couple of cold, rainy days moved in. I think the high was 53 degrees. I don’t think it’s gotten down to 53 degrees in Atlanta in the last four months.
  • Our agenda: basically to meet with a few local church leaders and friends, and scope out the city. Jason and Meredith hadn’t spent much time in Denver, so everything was new to them. We got some great advice about the culture of Denver and had a fun time driving around in a mini-van (thanks to Dana for letting us borrow it!) Of course, driving around got old after a while, but it was important to see lots of different areas of the city. We spent time all over the place: downtown, Cherry Creek, Washington Park, DU area, Englewood, Littleton, DTC area, Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, and even Stapleton. We even snuck away one night to Lookout Mountain where we could see all of Golden and downtown Denver and get a feel for the foothills. It brought back some great memories from the days Janis and I used to live in Denver.
  • Decisions: we weren’t necessarily expecting to come away from the weekend with a final decision on where to plant the church, but we were hoping to narrow the field a bit. When all was said and done, we decided that the south Metro Denver area was the best fit for us. So, at this point, we’ll probably be looking to plant the church somewhere between the triangle made up of Sante Fe Dr. on the west, I-25 on the north and east, and C-470 on the south.

Well, that’s it for now. We’re back in Atlanta, and back to our jobs and families, but excited about the next steps. Thanks so much for your prayers and support

I remember that streak of rainy weather. Funny, we hadn’t had much rain for months and then it poured on you guys. (or should I say y’all) I guess things worked out though. You came to Denver to get your feet wet. =) We’re so excited about what God is doing! Thanks for jumping on board!

There is a saying in Denver. If you don’t like the weather, just wait 15 minutes.

It’s interesting to hear a different perspective on weather from someone else. We welcome the rain here since we get so little of it.

hello from a guy who’s been involved in two church plants here in the denver metro area… one in denver proper and one in the south suburbs, where you guys are planning on planting…

i found your add on facebook… way to go, using web 2.0 for some networking.

if i can serve you guys in anyway, feel free to shoot me an e-mail… i have no agenda other than being the voice of someone who has some sense of what you guys are getting ready to do…

all the LORD’s best to you as you make your plans.

    grace,
    gary
